Ibrahim Oloriegbe: A Kwara Senator Living up to Expectations

The two years stewardship of the Senator representing Kwara Central, Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, was showcased in Ilorin, the Kwara State captial recently.
The occasion at the Lower Niger River Basin field was a beehive of activities, cutting across economic empowerment, education, agriculture, health, vocational training for the youths from his constituency among others.
The programme, beside the mammoth crowd present at the occasion, will remain evergreen in their memories.
Presenting his scorecard on human capacity development, Oloriegbe said he had facilitated many empowerment programmes through SMEDAN, Nigeria Port Authority, among others, for hundreds of beneficiaries in his District.
On 17 October 2020, the Senator carried out a training, skills acquisition, empowerment and provision of tools for unemployed youths and women in Kwara Central Senatorial District. This project was implemented by the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDAN).
169 constituents drawn from all the 52 wards in Kwara Central Senatorial District benefitted from the empowerment programme which cut across catering equipment with 15 beneficiaries, cobbling machine with 10 beneficiaries, hair dressing equipment with 15 beneficiaries, grinding machine with 72 beneficiaries and sewing machine with 35 beneficiaries.
Also, on the 6 February 2021, the Senator facilitated an empowerment programme through Nigeria Port Authority and augmented it with his personal money in order to reach more people.
211 constituents from all the 52 wards in the senatorial district benefitted from the vocational skills training, empowerment and tools distribution of grinding machine- 90, sewing machine- 98, irrigation pumping machine-9, hair dressing -5, vulcanizing machine-8 and motor cycle-1.
Distinguished Senator Oloriegbe’s ability in moving motions at the floor of the national assembly can not be overemphasized.
Among the motions and bills sponsored by distinguished senator include the national health insurance commission bill, the mental health and substance abused bill 2019, medical and dentist pratictional act 1988(Repeal and Re-enactment), (maternal and perinatal death suruverilance and response bill, 2020)(federal college of complementary and Alternative medicine of Nigeria)(A bill to Amend the psychiatric hospital management board to establish federal psychiatric hospital budo-egba, kwara state) among others.
However, the Senator as the chairman of the senate committee on health led other members to review and pass the 2020 supplementary budget that was presented following the outbreak of Covid-19 via a vis the need to adjust the budget to meet new reality; strengthen the capacity of federal hospitals to better respond to Covid-19 pandemic by inclusion of funds for provision of molecular laboratory, a 30-bed isolation center and 10 bed ICU unit in each of the 52 federal owend teaching hospital federal medical centers and specialized hospitals.
The Kwara Central Senator has also helped strengthen the capacity of research and regulatory agencies to better respond to Covid-19 pandemic by inclusion of funds in NAFDAC, NIMR, NIPRD, and NCDC for provision of relevant equipment for research, monitoring of Covid-19 as well for the development and approval of Covid-19 vaccine and other vaccine; inclusion of funds for payment of allowance to front line health workers.
For sure, the name, Distinguished Senator Oloriegbe has been written in gold thanks to the quality representation he has been offering the people of Kwara Central Senatorial District. He not only lived up to, but performed beyond expectation. Renewing his mandate in 2023 will not be a misnomer.
